White House Accidentally E-Mails to Reporters Story That Maliki Supports Obama Iraq Withdrawal Plan

Orlando Sentinel - Lessons of the Tim Russert coverage by Hal Boedeker...
Jun 17, 8:04am    (2 reviews)  news, speculation  http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/enterta...
On Russert:

Is there a sense of proportion? Peter Jennings didn't receive such heavy coverage when he died -- ABC doesn't own a cable channel. And he was in our homes, night after night, for 20 years. MSNBC kept Russert front and center through the weekend. How will NBC cover the passing of Tom Brokaw? Hasn't he been the most influential figure at NBC for the past two decades?

Do the hours of coverage inflate the story? Tim Russert was excellent at his job, make no mistake. He worked hard, he treated his guests fairly, and he asked tough questions [in his never ending search for that nugget suitable for a sound bite, the more controversial the better]. But by weekend's end, some commentators had elevated him to preeminent journalist of his time. And one reader wrote: "His was the most noteworthy and untimely 'public' death in the past 20 years."

Really? Beware hyperbole.

Hyperbole indeed. But, that is our "news" coverage ... extreme overkill in all things. Actually, what was news is now predominantly speculation. This article tells it just as I thought the Russert coverage went, it was unwatchable hyperbole .... which is the norm on any given day.

Two specifics which were emphasized ... first, his "call" that "we now know who the Democratic nominee will be" blah blah ... as if this was some great insite. It was the dominant thought and suported by the numbers PLUS, Andrew Sullivan, a fantastic journalist for The Atlantic, called it a YEAR EARLIER, that Obama would be the nominee for 'such-n-such' reasons. That seems more impressive.

Second, which was WAY overkilled, the whole "Big Russ" thing. It was portrayed as if Tim's father was one in a million, something above the norm of fathers and that Tim's love was something "special" (read, sweetly deeper than most) which is slightly offensive to me. The difference between Tim and his father and the rest of the good fathers on the planet is that Tim has a venue to display it, a method to produce a book and make his portrayal. Tim said once that if Big Russ said you were phony (in politics) then you were done. I'm sorry but that is just a lot of hyped bullshit. He has a venue, so we get force-fed his hype to sell books.

I really don't mean to beat down the dead, Tim was a good guy, a decent contemporary media face, and a human who died to young, and it was father's day weekend, but seriously ... he wasn't an icon and he did not have any significant impact on our country. I am sorry for his family but .... seriously.

Mass media speculative coverage .... yuck.

Why is Jeremiah Wright, with the inference to Obama, all over the media?

While John Hagee and McCain's acceptance of this extreme prick's endorsement not?

Dare I say it?

It's a black-white thing.

My preference, by the way, is not to hear about Hagee ... he's just another American Whore like the new McCain. No ... I just prefer we leave all the religious positioning OUT of the ef-ing story.

Damn, this stuff really makes me cuss, huh. :)

TheHill.com - Clinton camp in lockdown mode over Bosnia flap
Mar 25, 11:29am    (2 reviews)  news  http://thehill.com/campaign-2008/clinton...

Toast?

The campaign of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) is seeking to play down news that the former first lady gave an incorrect account of landing in Bosnia in 1996 under sniper fire, and refused to answer additional questions about a flap that could hurt her chances of catching Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.) in the race for the Democratic nomination.

Expose the falsity. But this is only her, there's plenty to go around. I hope, at least, that this is enough to finish her.
